Our Fort Collins dermatologists at Front Range Dermatology work hard to make your visit a positive experience. With compassion for our patients and years of experience, we’re passionate about helping you keep your skin, hair, and nails in healthy condition. Our doctors are prepared to help you find the treatments you need for your dermatology concerns. But before you make a visit, here are some ways you can prepare for your appointment.
Note any specific areas of concern to mention to your doctor.
One of the best ways you can prepare to see your dermatologists is to come ready with questions about any specific dermatology concerns you have. Are there particular skin issues that occur consistently or even occasionally that you need to address? You may even consider bringing pictures that document a common, yet sporadic problem you have that isn’t going on currently. Make a list of the areas you want your doctor to examine and the questions you need to ask to help your appointment go smoothly.
Wear comfortable, loose clothing for your appointment.
For your appointment, you may need to change into a gown so that your dermatology doctor can easily do a thorough examination of your skin. Wearing loosely fitted clothing is going to make changing into a gown much easier.
Take off any nail polish before your visit.
Your nails are a good indicator of your bodily health. And even though you may be coming in for a skin condition, your doctor will need to see your nails. Remove all your nail polish so that your doctor can examine your nails without difficulty.
Don’t wear makeup to your dermatology appointment.
While you may depend daily on foundation or concealer to give your face the best appearance possible, you will more than likely need to remove it anyway for your appointment. Wearing makeup will hinder your dermatologist from fully seeing what is going on with your skin. To get the most out of your visit, make it easy for your doctor to examine blemishes and imperfections so that you can get the treatments you need.
While you should avoid makeup, it’s okay to complete your otherwise daily skincare routine before your visit, unless you are told otherwise.
Come in with realistic expectations.
Your Fort Collins dermatologists are going to do their best to provide you with skin, hair, and nail solutions that are effective. However, often people come in with unrealistic expectations, thinking they should see significant improvements within just a few days. While that isn’t impossible, many medications can take up to 6 to 8 weeks before the results really begin to show.
Additional Tips
- Especially if this is your first-time dermatology visit, your doctor may want to see a copy of your full medical history to have a better understanding of your general health.
- Bring a list (or take quick snapshots) of the medications you use. This should also include any over-the-counter medications and treatments.
- Try to book appointments and treatments on days when you don’t have major events going on. Certain treatments, like a chemical peel or microdermabrasion, can give your skin an irritated or inflamed appearance.
